Kingfisher, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, and a Spotted Redshank

It’s been a windy week here at WWT Llanelli, the birds are flying backwards!

Wildlife Sightings at WWT Llanelli from 16th – 23rd February 2025

Highlights: Kingfisher, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Spotted Redshank

The Kingfishers are looking for love this February, pairing up and preparing for the nesting season by searching for a new place to call home. Looking forward to March – they’ll start digging out nests ready to lay eggs in the Spring. Keep an eye out on the kingfisher banks on Deep Water Lake for nesting activity!

On Monday morning, the skies above the Saltmarsh were filled with a frenzy of Lapwing as a Marsh Harrier and Peregrine were patrolling along the estuary together. Not seeming to mind each other’s company, they worked together scare prey out of hiding.

Also out from the British Steel Hide, a Spotted Redshank waded around the Saline Lagoon as the centre of attention for plenty of photographers.

Also creeping around the Millennium Wetlands, the Water Rail has been spotted again near the Sir Peter Scott Hide and the sneaky Fox has been caught venturing out onto the Saline Lagoon, much to the bird’s dismay.
