Last chance to inspire with letter-writing talents

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust’s Scott 100 letters ‘Inspiring Generations’ letter-writing competition ends on Friday 30 November.

So to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic holiday – while making a difference to the environment – WWT is encouraging people of all ages to get writing now!  To enter, go to the website at www.scott100letters.com

The Inspiring Generations campaign commemorates the 100th anniversary of Scott of the Antarctic’s death, which moved and inspired generations of people.  Launched in spring this year, it features a competition which calls on the public to write a letter to an individual, politician, celebrity or business leader they think has the greatest power to inspire people to make a difference to the natural world.

With just one week before the competition closes, hundreds of great and inspirational letters have been pouring in - many asking public figures, relatives and friends to do specific things to inspire others to take an interest in wetlands, wildlife and the great outdoors.

The 100 most inspiring letters will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges including Kate Humble, Bill Oddie, Miranda Krestovnikoff and Chris Packham – and then posted to the recipients from Antarctica.

The letter judged the most inspirational overall will win a luxury family adventure holiday courtesy of Sani Resort in Greece.

Some examples of letters so far include a letter to singer Beyoncé asking her to take a break from luxury and go camping, to focus her mind on nature and encourage others to do so; education Secretary Michael Gove has been asked to consider introducing natural history into the national curriculum and comedian David Walliams has been asked to write a really funny and exciting story about nature.

As part of the campaign, more than £60,000 has been donated to the Scott 100 Appeal Fund, which enables schools to give disadvantaged pupils a first-hand experience of nature through a free, guided expedition around their nearest WWT Wetland Centre, including WWT Washington.

The Scott 100 letters competition closes on Friday 30 November and participants can enter at WWT Washington Wetland Centre, as well as online at www.scott100letters.com
