Latest Sighting

Looking interesting for the next couple of days as a fast moving pressure system is swept across the Atlantic by the jet stream. Will that mean an influx of rare North American waders on the West Coast of the UK? Probably not but we can only hope.

Wader counts here from the past couple of days include : 300+ Lapwing, 230+ Black-tailed Godwit, 15+ Ruff, 6 Dunlin, 6 Oystercatcher, 2 Little-ringed Plover, 2 Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper and Redshank.

Marsh Harrier was the pick of the raptors plus 4 Kestrel, 4+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

A Kingfisher showed well from the United Utilities Hide on post on the close pool.

Some big flocks of Goldfinch starting to form, feeding on the thistleheads.

Six Little Egret seen on Monday was a good count here. At least that number of Grey Heron present.

At least 6 Common tern regularly around.

Tree Sparrow, Linnet, Greenfinch and Reed Bunting all to be seen out around the reserve.

Mammals included Brown Hare and a showy Stoat opposite the Ron Barker Hide.
