Latest Sightings

This week at Martin Mere we've had some lovely sightings of Barn Owls up at Long Meadow Barn, just down from the Gordon-Taylor hide. We continue to have our Marsh Harriers taking to the skies over all of the water bodies, sending the deceit of Lapwing up into eye-catching murmurations. In the reedbed the Cetti's warbler and Water rail can be heard calling and we've seen some regal looking Grey Wagtail and Stonechat. From the Harrier Hide some groups of Tufted Duck and Pochard can been seen and although they have a whole reserve to enjoy, Mistle Thrush and Redwing are very much enjoying dipping into the puddles of the over-flow car park. Last week-end we had a large migration of Whooper Swans come in, so we are up to around 700 swans across the reserve now!
