Latest Sightings
We carried out a count of the Pink-Footed Geese at dawn, which came to a total of 7270.
1000 were counted at the Mere, 820 were counted at Ron Barker, and 5450 at Woodend Marsh. The Pink-Footed Geese will rest on the waterbodies until sunrise and then flock in great numbers. They have been very active today and can be seen throughout the day flying around the reserve, in the fields and on the water. More are arriving everyday from Iceland and can be viewed from most of the hides.

The White Fronted Goose is still present this week and can be seen often inhabiting the Mere. 20 Cattle Egrets were counted today on the cows in the fields behind the Mere, viewable from Discovery hide.
3 Roe Deer, a mother doe and 2 fawns, were spotted this morning from Ron Barker hide.
Other bird species observed this week includes; 3 Pintail, 2 Snipe, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Wigeon, 2 Black Tailed Godwit, 3 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 3 Ruff and a large number of Lapwing, seen on the Mere. 1 Green Sandpiper was spotted at Rees hide. At Harrier hide, 1 Little Grebe, 3 Shoveler and 1 Great Crested Grebe with a chick were seen.
