Even with a bit of light rain, Martin Mere offers plenty to explore and enjoy!

The Pink-Footed Geese are very active today and are flying all around the site - around 8,000 were counted on Friday.

There has been 1 Barnacle Goose and 1 Swan Goose spotted on the Mere, as well as 9 Canada Geese, and plenty of Greylag Geese.

A good number of Whooper Swans are present; you can see these large swans up close, along with Shelduck, Pintail, Wigeons, Coot, Mallard, Shoveler and Pochard, during our daily 3pm Wild Bird Feed at Discovery Hide.

1 Greater Black-Backed Gull is still on the Mere. 2 Great White Egret and 2 Ravens are currently at the back of the Mere.

Some raptors were also seen at the weekend including 3 Marsh Harrier, 3 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel and 1 Merlin.

The reserve saw this year’s first sighting of a Great Grey Shrike, a predatory songbird and rare winter visitor. Look for this medium sized, long-tailed, black, and grey bird species at the top of trees, like on the trail leading to Tomlinson hide.

At Janet Kear hide, there has been 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler and 1 Redwing. At Gordon Taylor hide, 1 Snipe and 1 Stonechat were observed. 1 Little Egret was spotted from Raines Observatory.

Winter opening hours are 9.30am - 4.30pm.
