Latest Sightings
Over the weekend, there has been sightings of a Woodcock near Kingfisher hide and another was seen on the Reedbed Walk.
1 Water Rail was observed at Janet Kear hide, where you can also view songbirds on the feeders.
3 Roe Deer were just seen behind Janet Kear hide, making their way to Woodend Marsh. If you are lucky, you might see them today from Rees, Gordon Taylor or Tomlinson hides.
The Kingfisher is showing well at Ron Barker hide, and 1 Barn Owl was observed. 5 Snipe were seen from Harrier Hide.
25 Cattle Egret and 1 Kestrel were spotted around the English Longhorn cattle on Longmeadow, which is on the path to Tomlinson hide.
On the Mere, 50 Pochard, 42 Black-Tailed Godwit, and 35 Ruff were counted.
There were also 2 Great White Egret, 3 Shovelers, 7 Mute Swans, 9 Tufted Ducks, 9 Marsh Harrier and 1 Buzzard.
1 Snow Goose is visible today on the Mere. You can behold hundreds of Icelandic Whooper Swans up close every day, during our 3pm Wild Bird Feed in Discovery Hide.
You will also see Shelduck, Greylag Geese, Wigeon, Mallards, Lapwings, Pintail, Moorhens, Coots, Cormorants and Lapwings.
The most recent count of Pink-Footed Geese was ~5,000, and the highest count has been ~10,000. They usually sit on Plover Field behind the Mere during the day.
