Latest Sightings
It's been a cold and frosty start to the new year here at Martin Mere, with plenty of wildlife to see.
There are many wintering water birds, with high numbers of Wigeon, Pintail and Shelduck all visible from our Discovery Hide.
There are also hundreds of Whooper Swans, with our high count for the year being ~800.
Every day, we carry out a Wild Bird Feed at 3pm at Discovery Hide which includes commentary from a reserve warden - this is a fantastic opportunity to see all of these amazing birds up close.
Mallards, Cormorants, Tufted Ducks, Shovelers, Pochard, Black-Tailed Godwits, Ruff and Lapwings can also be observed on the Mere.
A Woodcock has been seen from Janet Kear hide, along with numerous songbirds like Goldfinch and Greenfinch.
The sound of the Song Thrush can be heard along the nature trail leading to Ron Barker hide, where the Kingfisher is often visible.
