Latest Sightings
At Dawn today, 3530 Pink-Footed Geese and 374 Whooper Swans were counted.
The Pink-Footed Geese have been very active again, flying all around the reserve. You can view the Whooper Swans from Discovery Hide, and watch them come close to feed every day at 3pm, alongside Pintail, Shelduck, Mallards, Pochard, Wigeon, Mute Swans, Coot and Greylag Geese.
Over 50 Canada Geese have been present recently on the back of the Mere, as well as at Harrier hide and Ron Barker hide.
4 Avocets were spotted yesterday. Over the next couple of months, more Avocets will hopefully return to build their nests and successfully breed, as they did last year.
There has been an impressive number of waders. 32 Ruff have been seen today on the Mere. 62 Black-Tailed Godwit and 46 Oystercatcher were counted yesterday.
1 Mediterranean Gull and 1 Common Gull have been observed, as well as 2 Great White Egret. Cormorants, Shovelers and a flock of Lapwing are also present on the Mere.
On Woodend Marsh, there are 6 Ringed Plovers today, visible from Rees or Gordon Taylor hide. 3 Stonechat, Snipe and Teal were also seen.
Buzzards, Marsh Harriers and Ravens can be seen flying over the Mere, also visible from Ron Barker hide.
On the nature trail, Goldfinch, Song Thrush, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Wren and Redwing can be observed. Janet Kear hide provides an excellent opportunity to view and take photographs of the songbirds on the feeders.
