Latest Sightings

It's been a busy weekend at Martin Mere, as we've been celebrating our 50th Birthday. During the celebrations we have welcomed numerous distinguished guests including 417 Whooper Swans, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 57 Black tailed godwits 41 Oystercatchers, 26 Ruff, 25 Avocets and 1 Great White Egret. All of which can be seen on the main mere from Discovery hide.

While over at Harrier hide a pair of Great Crested Grebe were seen participating in courtship dancing, showing that breeding season is upon us. Additionally 24 Tufted ducks, 9 Shoveler, 18 Gadwall have all been spotted from Harrier hide this weekend.

In the opposite direction on the nature trail, Ron Barker hide provides a good view of Pink Footed Geese, Cattle Egret, Teal, Wigeon and Marsh Harrier.

Further species of raptors have been reported flying over Hale hide including 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel and 1 Barn Owl.

Lastly over at Rees hide, 2 Ringed Plovers continue to be reported.
