With clear blue skies throughout the week, a day out at Martin Mere is the ideal place to see incredible wildlife.

The United Utilities (UU) hide was reopened on Saturday, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the nature reserve. It is the best hide to view the Pink-Footed Geese, still here before their migration. Over 200 were observed on Plover field at the weekend and can be seen today. 1 Greater White-Fronted Goose can be spotted among the flock. 2 Little Egret were seen from UU hide on Saturday.

Over the weekend, 1 Sparrowhawk was spotted from Ron Barker hide. On the nature trail that leads to the hide, 1 Blackcap, 1 Stonechat and 1 Mistle Thrush were observed. Today, many Buzzards and Marsh Harriers can be seen, Cattle Egrets are perched on the English Longhorn cattle, and 1 Skylark was heard singing in the fields.

From Harrier hide, we observed 1 Little Grebe, 2 Herring Gulls, 24 Shovelers, and 25 Gadwall. Rees hide provided sightings of 13 Common Gulls and 3 Redshank, along with numerous Avocets. Our current maximum count of Avocets stands at 87. The Bittern's booming call was once again heard along the Reedbed Walk.

3 Common Sandpipers, 14 Mediterranean Gulls, more than 5 Ruff, and over 30 Black-Tailed Godwits were observed on the Mere and are present today. Today, there is also 1 Great White Egret visible on the Mere, along with Cormorants, Lapwings, Teal, Shelduck, Wigeon, Mallards, Moorhens and Coots.

At Janet Kear today, you will see Goldfinches and various songbirds. If you are lucky, you may encounter a Hare, which are becoming more prevalent in the area this Spring.
