Latest sightings

A few new birds are appearing but overall it has been a quieter couple of days with regard to migrants and birds moving. Low tides and very hot weather has meant birds are rather static and keeping quiet in the heat of the day.

I can totally recommend spending time in the Knott Hide particularly in the mornings, nine species of warbler can be seen ranging  from the ice cool plumaged Lesser Whitethroat to the bullish Garden Warbler. All are attracted to the ripening berries. I popped in for three minutes on Sunday morning and saw 8 species!

On the scrapes we still have Black-tailed Godwits and Redshank as well as four Avocet, numbers have dropped since last week, perhaps some have moved on. South Lake and Top New Piece are the two favoured spots for shanks and godwits but the Tack Piece and Rushy are also 'wader friendly'. 8+ juvenile Green Sandpipers are about and at least one Common Sandpiper has been seen today.

A Greenshank arrived on the Top New Piece flood this morning.
