Latest sightings from the past two days.

No roost counts of Whooper Swan or Pink-footed Geese but 300+ and 800+ of each respectively during the day. Over 600 Greylag and a handful of Canada Geese too. A Good Shelduck count of 1010, 2200+ Mallard, 4100 Teal, 780 Wigeon, 428 Pintail, 40+ Gadwall, 23 Pochard, 29 Tufted Duck, 3 Goldeneye, 4 Mute Swan, 246 Coot and 26 Cormorant.

Still only a handful of Bewick's Swan out on the Ribble Estuary. Will we see any here this winter?

As milder conditions return more Lapwing have come in with 1380 birds, the highest count of the winter so far. Also 150+ Black-tailed Godwit, 96 Ruff, 20+ Snipe, Redshank and Dunlin.

Raptors included 7 Buzzard, 3 Marsh Harrier, 4 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Gulls; 460 Black-headed Gull, 200+ Herring Gull, 10+ Common Gull, a few LBBG, 2 Great Black-backed Gull.

Other reports included female Brambling again from the Kingfisher Hide, 100+ Stock Dove, 30+ Tree Sparrow, 5 Coal Tit, 3 Stonechat, Little Egret, 2 Cetti's Warbler and Water Rail.

Ghost riders in the sky...

Currently it should be possible to see over 70 species in a full days birding in the area.
