Latest Sightings

More wild weather from the past few days. The Long-billed Dowitcher decided to visit Burton Mere on Monday and Tuesday before returning to the reserve on Wednesday, still present here late afternoon.


Great White Egret again around the reserve.

Avocet numbers increased to 44 including a colour ringed bird slightly too distant to decipher.

In the squally conditions on Monday 11 Dunlin and 2 Knot dropped in briefly along the back of the Mere. Other waders include 300+ Lapwing, 30+ Ruff, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 80+ Oystercatcher and some Snipe.

Five raptor species; Peregrine, Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Difficult weather for Barn Owl with up to 5 birds hunting during the day.

The Tundra Bean Goose has been spending most of its time out on Plover Field.

A Great-crested Grebe was in front of the Harrier Hide, potentially one of the breeding birds.

Willow Tit daily from the Janet Kear Hide.

At least one adult Med Gull present.
