Latest sightings

Another lovely sunny weekend, lots of sand martins passing through. A couple of arctic terns and our first common terns have arrived onsite. We still have 4 singing grasshopper warblers reeling in the rushes.

The grounds, our captive collection area, with the lack of public disturbance is alive with birds. There is an oystercatcher nest in the Chilean flamingo pen (right next to the footpath), bullfinches nesting in wow, tree sparrows nesting in the Brazilian teal pen. 4 pairs of willow warblers and the great-spotted woodpeckers are nesting on the canoe safari again. Lots of pochard on the canoe safari and in the wooded wetlands pen (hanging out with the canvasbacks which is nice to see them side by side)

The little ringed plovers are now on nests we have one pair at Ron Barker, one pair on the mere and one pair on woodend marsh. The lapwings have hatch and we have 14 families across the site fingers cross we have a good fledging year! A few dunlin on site and ringed plovers.

The grounds, the nature reserve and all hides and paths are closed at WWT Martin Mere, following government guidance on Covid-19. A small team of essential staff is working on site looking after the animals and completing essential tasks on the reserve. Please do not attempt to visit the site as you will be putting our staff and yourself at risk.
