Latest sightings for 18 April 2024
Our first Cuckoo of 2024 from 16 April, as ever, most welcome.
Estuary Tower
Six Curlew including a colour ringed bird- Dark green over Yellow R above (Yellow has characters or a code that I couldn't read in the haze), Orange L above. 3 Redshank, 5 Lapwing. Two singing Lesser Whitethroat in the hedges.
South Lake
Four Mediterranean Gulls among the Black-headed Gull colony, 2 Common Sandpiper, drake Goldeneye but moved to the grounds. 6 Oystercatcher and 3 Avocet, nesting Crane. Male Garganey on the deep Lake. Immature Spoonbill asleep on the shallow lake big island. Green Sandpiper on the Duck Marsh.
Yesterday an adult Kittiwake was resting here.
Rushy Hide
50 Avocet, Common Sandpiper and drake Pochard.
Tack Piece
Four Ruff, Snow Goose, 8 Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Snow Goose, 7 White and 2 Pied Wagtails, c30 Black- tailed Godwit, 3 Wigeon and Shoveler and Teal.
Top New Piece
Immature Spoonbill (briefly), nesting Crane, c70 Black-tailed Godwit, 30 Avocet, singing Reed and Sedge Warbler.
Kingfisher Hide/Bottom New Piece
The Kingfishers changed over at the nest, pair of Little Grebe, male Cuckoo was singing and mobile, 3 Lapwing, female Marsh Harrier, singing Chiffchaff, Sedge and Reed Warbler.
Duck Decoy
Common Sandpiper on the pond tree, 12 Shelduck, pair of Gadwall, 14 Tufted Duck, Mallard and Greylag.
