Little Stint

A gorgeous autumn day with a little visible migration overhead and plenty of birds

A juvenile Little Stint which appeared on the Mere late afternoon was the best new bird for the day, also a Golden Plover was with Lapwings on Mere late afternoon. Other waders today included 3 Green Sandpiper, 40 Ruff, 500 Black-tailed Godwit, 400+ Lapwing and plenty of Snipe.

Good numbers of Pink-footed Geese with a count of 2100, also around 500 Teal on the Mere, also a male Wigeon and the female Pintail with a drooping wing that has been with us for a few years now.

A bit of visible migration overhead today with a trickle of Meadow Pipits, 3 Grey Wagtail and quite a few House Martins and Swallows heading south. A Chiffchaff was occasionally singing and calling by In Focus.

Still at least 6 Yellow Wagtail in with the Longhorn Cattle.

At least 4 Marsh Harrier, a juv Peregrine, 2 Sparrowhawk, several Common Buzzard and Kestrel.

A Barn Owl was showing on and off most of the morning from Ron Barker hide, where a couple of Kingfisher were seen and other Kingfisher sightings from the Mere and Harrier Hide.
