Lockdown opening - key information Nov 2020

A walk in nature is what everyone needs right now, and we're pleased to be able to stay open during this new lockdown. There are some restrictions to allow us to stay within government guidance...

We’re keeping our nature reserve open during the new lockdown period so you have the chance to experience and enjoy winter wildlife in our wetlands - we understand how vital a safe walk in nature is right now!
However, to comply with new regulations, we have had to close our hides and make some significant changes. Before booking please read the full details below and full statement here: https://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/washington/..
  • All visitors must pre-book their visit - this includes all members, essential helpers and children under 4. We have a reduced admission cost for paying visitors to reflect the below restrictions for the duration of lockdown (£5 adult / £2.50 child)
  • We open at 10am & close at 4.30pm - last admission is at 3.30pm.
  • All hides are closed.
  • The cafe is closed, however there is a selection of hot and cold refreshments available to takeaway from our admissions area (10am - 3pm).
  • The gift shop is closed.
  • The play area is closed.
  • Visitor centre toilets are closed to visitors (there are accessible toilets with baby change facilities within the grounds at Close Encounters, the reedbed shelter, our composting toilet near the otter exhibit and opposite the play area).
  • Our Chilean flamingos are off show.
  • Various paths around our animal collections are closed due to strict guidance which states we cannot allow visitors to linger or gather around these areas.
  • Please do not feed our birds. There will be no grain available to buy and we cannot allow you to bring your own.
  • Social distancing measures, hand sanitiser stations and hand washing facilities are clearly signed.
  • Our otter and flamingo talks are currently not available.
  • The below map shows all key areas that are closed so you can plan your walk in nature.

We'd like to keep everyone as safe as we can during a visit and we ask all visitors to adhere to these restrictions and understand that these are necessary to allow us to stay open. We thank you all for your support during these uncertain times and look forward to welcoming you soon!
