March art exhibition
Looking for a unique and original Mother’s Day gift for a mam who’s a bit arty?
Our current exhibition by Alison Edwards features a number of beautiful watercolour, gouache and pencil pieces, plus some pastels and photographic prints, priced from £7 to £35 – perfect presents for that special someone!
Alison said: “From a very young age I always loved painting and drawing and I was also always fascinated with the natural world, so it was perhaps no surprise that I ended up studying Natural History Illustration at Sunderland Poly in the late eighties.”
From there Alison began a small business as a self-employed artist, selling her work at exhibitions (including here at WWT Washington!), craft fairs and through retail outlets.
“I mostly painted wildflowers and animals with some work based around fantasy and folklore themes and also pet portraits done as commissions, plus some local scenes,” she added.
Family and work commitments mean that Alison hasn’t painted in recent years but hopes to return to it soon and in the meantime she is using her existing work as a way to raise vital funds for WWT Washington – which we’re very grateful for.
She said: “I became a WWT member a few years ago and wanted to show my support for its wonderful work by donating any sales from this exhibition to WWT.”
See Alison’s work on display and for sale in the visitor centre throughout March.
