Martin mere goes solar!
WWT is committed to improving our sustainability and aims to embed this into everything we do. For us, sustainability means making the best use of our resources while minimising our impact on the environment.
As part of our commitment to being more sustainable and environmentally friendly, we are thrilled to announce the installation of solar panels on the roof of our Mere Side Cafe.
All WWT sites purchase 100% renewable energy, however, we still want to aim to generate our own and reduce consumption wherever possible. By installing these new solar panels at our site, we will generate around 64,000 kWh of electricity a year.
All of the electricity will be used on-site and reduce our electricity consumption, carbon footprint and electricity costs. 205 panels will be installed and save over 14 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Work began 9 June to install the solar panels, and is set to be complete by the end of June. This does mean that we will need to put up scaffolding around the cafe to install them, limiting access to the cafe deck. However, visitors can still use the cafe and inside seating as normal.
