Med Gulls & Little Gull

An influx of Gulls to the Mere mid afternoon contained 3 Mediterranean Gulls (2 juvs, 1 adult) also the sub adult Little Gull from the other day was in the same flock before a big rainstorm came through, the flock flushed again and no further sign of the Little Gull.

Earlier a juvenile female Hobby had flushed lots of birds as it flew through the reserve flushing c1000 Lapwing and 30+ Ruff. A group of 6 Green Sandpiper were seen from Ron Barker Hide in the morning also from here were 2 juvenile Dunlin and 6 Ringed Plover. At least 15 Black-tailed Godwit over Woodend Marsh.

A couple of Swifts were seen heading south, also good numbers of House Martins, Swallows and a few Sand Martins around the reserve.

A group of 4 Raven flew over late afternoon. Kingfisher showing from Ron Barker Hide, and adult Common Tern on the Mere.

Increasing numbers of Teal and Shoveler on the Mere, up to 4-500 Greylag Geese and smaller numbers of Canada Geese, also the 6 over summering Pink-footed Geese have been noted over recent days. The first returning family groups of Pink-footed Geese could return from Iceland any day now given favourable winds.
