Meet Tim Kennedy, Welcome Desk volunteer at Martin Mere
Tim volunteers at our welcome desk twice a week, as well as at local shops in his spare time. He decided to volunteer after looking for employed work and wanting to do something new.
“I started volunteering as I was looking for employed work. I chose Martin Mere as I’ve been coming here with my family since I was a little kid. Volunteering also allowed me to meet new people and have new experiences. It also extends my knowledge about wildlife.”
As part of our Welcome Desk team, Tim helps us to create a great first impression, being on hand to provide a warm welcome and help visitors make the most of their day. The desk is a pick-up point for our seasonal trails and the best place to go for any questions about your visit, including what’s on for the day.
Tim says the best part of volunteering is seeing the site develop and ideas coming to life.
“Each day you learn something new, and get to see the site as it develops. I love seeing the different ideas that come to life such as our displays in the exhibition hall, and seeing all of the different roles that people do”
Asked how he’d describe volunteering in three words, Tim said: “rewarding, amazing, and brilliant”.
