Mike Dilgers visit

I was privileged to meet Mike Dilger yesterday and I can confirm that he is an extremely nice man. He had a tour of our reserve, watched and did swan feeds, undertook some live radio interviews and posed for pictures for our local paper, as well as undertaking a talk to 100 people last night.  He seemed to really enjoy his day - obviously this was only day 4 of his big 9 challenge to visit 9 WWT centres in 9 days, so I wish him a lot of luck for the remainder of his challenge. He was catching the ferry last night to Belfast to spend the day today at Castle Espie.

Mike said: “It is day 4 of 9 of my Big 9 Challenge and I have come to the fabulous Martin Mere. I have had a terrific welcome from ridiculously keen staff and I have had the opportunity to really get to grips with this incredible site. Tom has shown me everything from the English Longhorn Cattle to courting shoveler. Alex has given me a VIP tour of the beaver enclosure and it was an honour to do the swan feeds. I am really looking forward to talk to a full capacity audience tonight with all the money raised going to the Spoon-billed sandpiper project, an incredible initiative to save a wonderful and rare wader, all spear-headed by WWT”.
