Rushy Hide and Peng Observatory

Highlights today included a Whooper Swan that dropped in with the 60+ Bewick's Swans and 2 Little Stint. Some of the Bewick's Swan headed to the Ox Piece to feed for the day, this is the field just NE of the Tack Piece.

Tack Piece

60+ E. White-fronted Geese this morning, most feeding elsewhere later, 28 Ruff and other waders on the flood.

South Lake

A drumming (when they drill the tree to announce a territory) Great-spotted Woodpecker was early but it was a clear, calm and sunny day. A Green Woodpecker was in the trees on the east side of the lake this afternoon. The wader scrape and deep lake were very busy, 1500+ Lapwing, 40+ Black-tailed Godwit plus the Dunlin flocks.

Zeiss Hide

De-silting the channels either side of the island below the hide. Very birds early on as it was still frozen but a few species were seen later in the day. Work continues here tomorrow.
