More Bewick`s and Whitefront`s

Rushy

A steady arrival of new Bewick`s Swans over the past two days and again last night. At least 82 on site including a new family with one youngster. Still some lingering ice so top pond very busy with Tufted Duck 210, Pochard 21, Pintail 51 and Teal 90 crammed onto the open water.

Zeiss Hide

Still partly frozen here as a result just 420 Teal and 50 Wigeon, one Redshank and a handful of Lapwing.

South Lake

Pochard 78, Tufted Duck 147 and Shoveler 81 (high count for this time of year) all on the open water on the main lake with a Great crested Grebe as well.
Rather sadly a dead Goshawk was picked up near the hide (close to a plucking post with the remains of several Starling). This will be sent away for a post mortem examination.

Holden Tower and Walkway

Ten Cranes on the Dumbles including the two unringed birds, A scattering of Wigeon and Teal on areas of open water. At least 20 Pintail on the long Ground Pool (south of the Holden Tower). Two Water Rail as ever from the Willow Hide, only a single Common Snipe at the Martin Smith this morning but keep looking for the Jack Snipe which was seen well yesterday afternoon.
Whitefronted Goose flock has been increasing slowly in line with the Bewick`s, just under 100 yesterday but feeding just north of the Tack Piece, watch out for movements later in the day.
