More chicks

Activity at the Kingfisher Hide this morning would suggest that the pair have hatched young.  Both the male and female were seen together carrying small fish into the nest hole.  Elsewhere on the reserve the first Avocet chicks have now hatched and at least 2 pairs of Oystercatchers.  We also have a few broods of Lapwing chicks lurking in the grass.

South Lake Hides

Waders on the scrape included a Common Sandpiper, 89 Black-tailed Godwit, 9 Avocet and a pair Oystercatcher with 3 chicks in front of the Discovery Hide.  The incubating Crane was present near the Hogarth Hide and a pair Mediterranean Gulls are still on the deep lake.

The first Avocet chicks hatched yesterday so we await the arrival of more.  The Egyptian Goose was still present on the Dumbles but there was no sign of Brent Goose this morning.  A Peregrine was also seen.
