More Crane action

Along with our two pairs of Crane on the South Lake and Rushy, another pair were back prospecting the island from the Zeiss Hide.  Fingers crossed for another nest here soon.  Also of note was a Dark-bellied Brent Goose on the Dumbles, presumably the bird that was seen earlier in the week at Saul Warth.

South Lake Hides

Four Mediterranean Gulls were present this morning, the pair on the island and 2 first-summers.  On the deep lake were 3 pairs of Great Crested Grebe, 45 Shelduck and 4 drake Gadwall.  The Crane continues to incubate down near the Hogarth Hide.

The Dumbles was a little quiet this morning other than the Brent Goose.  The Dumbles scrape held 62 Avocet and the pair of Oystercatcher.  Three Cranes were seen and 6 Curlew flew inland.  There was no sign of yesterday's Whinchats or Wheatears.

Kingfisher Hide

A couple of flypasts from a Kingfisher this morning as it headed for the Canoe Safari from the nesting bank, flying past the Zeiss Hide.  A pair of Little Grebe were on the pond and a Cuckoo was singing from a large willow tree further down the watercourse, viewable from the hide.  Reed Warbler and Whitethroat could also be heard singing.
