Despite the wet conditions, our moth trap still produced 46 species and approx 150 individuals this morning. Not bad going!
Quite a few flew off before we had the chance to photograph them but we've posted a small selection here and our warden Andrew has listed his highlights:
Poplar hawk-moth 2
July highflyer 1
Common rustic 5
Burnished brass 6
Gold spangle 4
Bordered sallow 1
Dun-bar 1
Peach blossom 2
Yellow shell 1
Brimstone moth 10
Light emerald 2
Barred red 1
Peppered 1
The last on the list has an interesting evolution story and is often used as an example of natural selection in action. Read more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppered_moth_evolution
