National tourism award finals beckon for WWT Washington
WWT Washington Wetland Centre is thrilled to announce that it is a finalist in the Small Visitor Attraction category of the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2013.
Excited staff and volunteers will have to wait until a glittering awards ceremony on 20 May at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club, in Manchester, to find out which prestigious award they will receive - gold, silver, bronze or Highly Commended.
WWT Washington’s marketing manager Leanne McCormella said: “To say we’re ecstatic is an understatement!
“This is the first time that WWT Washington Wetland Centre has made it through to the national tourism award finals, having been named the North East’s best three times in the last four years.
“The UK is home to a thriving and competitive tourism industry, so to be recognised as one of England’s finest is a real honour and a reflection of all the hard work and commitment shown by our dedicated staff and volunteers.
"WWT Washington Wetland Centre is a unique day out - a nature reserve home to an abundance of wonderful wetland wildlife and habitats, where people can have fun, learn and connect with nature; a truly diverse experience which is now gaining the national recognition it so richly deserves.
“We can’t wait to see which award we’ll be bringing back home to the North East.”
Commenting on the finalists, James Berresford, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive, said: “I would like to congratulate all those nominated as VisitEngland Awards for Excellence finalists this year.
“We received 320 applications and the quality of submissions was higher than ever. It is therefore no small achievement for WWT Washington Wetland Centre to become a finalist and justifiably take credit and pride in earning a coveted place in the top five in their category in England.
“I wish everyone all the best for the final in May”.
