New brood of Oystercatchers

Great here this morning. A brood of 3 Oystercatchers were just a few meters in front of the hide, at least 12 young avocet including 5 almost fledged birds were all over the scrape with 14 adult birds, No sign of Med or Little Gull but keep looking.

Zeiss Hide

Another 10 Avocets here and 4 more distantly in the Bottom New Piece with a single Black Tailed Godwit, 4 Redshank and a single Greenshank. Three Cranes flew over, 7 Shoveler were scattered around, 2Oystercatchers, a flyby Kingfisher and Reed Bunting close to the hide.

South Finger.

No sign of activity at Kingfisher so looking like first brood has fledged, there was a Cettis singing and a calling Cuckoo could be seen distantly. A single Cattle Egret was with the Longhorn cattle from the Van De Bovenkamp hide. Watch out for Dragonflies if the sun comes out. Hairy, Broad bodied Chasers and Blue Tailed and Common Blue all seen yesterday.

South Lake and Hogarth Hide

Crane still incubating at Hogarth and some great views of 7 big Avocet youngsters. The flock of 99 Black Tailed Godwits was mostly sheltering from the wind at the Hogarth end of the lake. There was a combined total of 18 Avocets and a scattering of Lapwing and Oystercatcher.

Holden Tower

A Good high tide this morning but few birds around. A small group of small waders and Ringed plover calling. A couple of Curlew and lone Grey Plover from the summer walkway. A cuckoo was calling and seen briefly in the Decoy.
