Forget buccaneer bay - get down to WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre this half term and visit Flamingo Bay – a brand new, themed outside play area that’s right at home with the Centre’s Caribbean flamingos.

The colourful, new play area which has been supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery will be officially opened on Saturday 22 October by local actor Stefan Pejic as Captain Jack Sparrow and will include lots of pirate fun and a special treasure trail.

Kelly Lewis, Marketing Officer at WWT Llanelli said: “The new play area will be a great addition to the centre and is already creating a lot of interest from visitors eager to see Flamingo Bay finished! We love the bright pink, flamingo themed design of the play area complete with model flamingo that can be seen peeking over the top of the fence as you approach the centre! We hope families will enjoy the new play area and that it will also encourage them to visit our flock of over 70 Caribbean flamingos and find out more about WWT’s role in flamingo conversation!”

Visitors will be encouraged to dress up in their pirate best for the official opening, pick up a compass and find the “pieces of eight” which have been hidden by the pesky pirates to claim a gold, chocolate coin! Face painting and awesome pirate accessory crafts will also be available to complete the pirate adventure.

NEW for 2016, half term also offers LEGO fans a fun LEGO brick building session to make and take home a LEGO brick frog and fly – perfect for Halloween! This session can be booked online and will give visitors a taste of what’s to come in November when 9 GIANT LEGO brick animals will be welcomed at the centre!

Other activities available at WWT Llanelli every day during half term include family favourites; pond dipping, mini beast hunts and guide in the hide sessions as well as special Halloween events after hours on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October (booking essential).
