October Half Term Promises a Week of Super Natural Activities at WWT Martin Mere

Families can tap into the magic that’s all around them at WWT Martin Mere this October half term, where wand making, potion crafting and spell casting are just a few of the mystical activities that will keep curious minds bewitched.

The centre’s popular Viking village, ‘Mere Tun’, will be transformed into a ‘Witches’ Wetland’ for two weeks of spells and potions, from 21 October until 3 November.

The event promises activities that can involve everyone, from grandparents to toddlers. It includes making a wand from willow, discovering the mysteries of wetland plants to make magical potions, and casting spells. All in the enchanting world of WWT Martin Mere wetland nature.

Little witches and wizards are invited to join in an owl pellet dissection that will show them first-hand how these nocturnal birds of prey live and what’s in their diet, using parts found in the pellets in their potions.

Imaginations can run wild for those who want to enter the WWT Martin Mere fancy dress competition on Halloween, 31 October. Children are invited to transform into their favourite magical character for the day, with a chance to win a certificate and voucher to spend in the gift shop or cafe.

Enjoying a week of super natural activities in wetland nature will be made easy with a free WWT Martin Mere Spells and Potions logbook that can be picked up on arrival. Capturing the memories being made, it includes a guide to all the activities on offer and a handy space to write down spooky spells and ‘super natural’ potions.

Victoria Fellowes, Visitor Experience Manager at WWT Martin Mere, said: “This October half term we have a bunch of enchanting activities to take part in. Whether it’s mixing up mystical concoctions or making your own magical wand for spell casting, we’re bubbling over with activities and here to share how super wetland nature can be.”

“Providing the perfect backdrop for a spell-binding half term there’s also an opportunity to explore our waters on our Canoe ‘Scarefari’ with a guided boat tour or canoe. There’s simply lots for the whole family to explore in the outdoors.”

October half term activities are included in the WWT Martin Mere admission ticket or are free to WWT members, except boat rides and canoe safaris which are an additional charge. The craft room will have a selection of free and paid colouring and crafts. Half term activities run from 21 October until 3 November. More information and a full what’s on calendar can be found on our 'What's On' page.
