One becomes two

A juvenile Spoonbill was on the South Lake this morning but was gone by 11am, but shortly after two juveniles were seen on the Rushy where they spend the rest of the day.  Its unclear if they are two new birds, or a second joining yesterday's.

South Lake Hides

Other than the juvenile Spoonbill other birds of note included 22 Redshank, 83 Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Ruff, 185 Lapwing, 159 Shoveler and a Little Grebe.  Three Snipe and a Green Sandpiper were at the Hogarth Hide.

Rushy Hide

The morning hide round found a Curlew Sandpiper along with 4 Ruff, single Redshank and Black-tailed Godwit and 12 Lapwing.  Three Pintail were on the upper pond amongst the Mallard and Tufted Duck and a total of 323 Teal were on the lower pond.  A Cetti's Warbler was calling from the back of the lower pond and an Egyptian Goose dropped in mid-morning with the Greylag Geese.

Zeiss Hide

A Curlew Sandpiper was amongst a small flock of Dunlin.  The two Brent Geese were with the Barnacle Goose flock as was the Red-breasted Goose.  At least 85 Wigeon were present along with 250+ Teal and 25 Shoveler.

Holden Tower

The hedgerows along the Holden Walkway were busy with warblers this morning, mainly consisting of Chiffchaff and Blackcap.  A few Goldcrest were also present.  A drake Pintail was on the Long Ground Pool and a Little Egret flew up river in the fog.
