Don’t let the rain put you off a visit to Martin Mere! With the typical British weather constantly changing, we’ve got you covered for a fun day come rain or shine this summer holidays.

As part of our Drawn to Water: Quentin Blake at WWT partnership, pick up your free event guide and get stuck in with our activities. Here are our top activities for a rainy day:

Moth Trapping

Daily, 10:30am

Our popular moth trapping gets you closer to some amazing species, from the colourful elephant hawk moth, to the fascinating eyed hawkmoth. And the rain wont stop us if it doesn’t stop you! We’ll open up the trap under cover to keep you nice and dry.

Daily

Join us in our nice and warm Discovery Hide, listening to the trickling of the rain as you search across the mere to see the incredible wildlife we have at our centre. We’ve challenged your family with finding a lapwing, mallard, common tern and more! You can also speak to one of our expert guides in the hide between 2 and 3pm.

Mere Tun Village

Daily, 12-3pm

Looking forward to our weapons training sessions and learning all about the history of wetland settlers? Don’t worry about the rain - we’ll be moving the activities indoors on those wetter days!

Arts and crafts

Daily, 1 - 4pm

We’ve transformed our Lecture Theatre into our Longhouse craft room! Work with wetland materials to create crafts like clay animals, rune necklaces, and mini-roundhouses. We’ll also have our popular badge making, with new designs to colour in.

Embrace the weather!

Put on your wellies, pick up your umbrella, and embrace the rain! Splash around our grounds puddle jumping, or head to our Wild Walk and get muddy. Squelch through the muddy meadow to the middle maze lodge, bounce across the wobbly web bridge to the wet woods, and balance along a reedy ramble, discovering the wildlife and giant sculptures. Whilst you’re there - go foraging for wetland materials as part of our Drawn to Water event.
