Pair of ospreys back at Caerlaverock

Great news! A pair of ospreys back at Caerlaverock.

This morning we could see the female osprey on the nest when we got the live CCTV images beamed through to the centre. Then at 10.30am she flew off and a male osprey landed on the nest briefly before flying off himself. Both were on the nest briefly but too brief a glimpse to see if it was indeed our usual male bird AW. At 10.45am she landed again and he came in shortly after and made a mating attempt. We couldn't see a leg ring so it may be a new male bird but we are not yet sure. I will try to get a good look today and confirm the identity before the end of today.

At the moment we are running more than one CCTV camera at the nest site for security reasons and the limited battery power means that we only have the capacity to beam live images to the centre between 10am and 4pm. When we have the pair established on the nest we will hopefully be able to consolidate the power source and increase the time till 5pm at the centre. We are also working on a refreshed image for the WWT website if we can overcome the technical issues.

More news soon.
