WWT's Sacha Dench takes Bewick's swan conservation to Brussels

Europe: Last year, many of you supported the European Birds and Habitats Directives, that protect are most vulnerable wildlife and the places they rely on. As a result, the Directives remain intact - so well done. Whether the UK leaves or stays in Europe, the value of working together to protect our shared air, water and wildlife is now on the political agenda.

Flight of the Swans: This year, WWT’s Sacha Dench will fly 7,000km across 11 countries as she follows the Bewick’s swan migration from Russia to the UK. She’ll aim to bring countries, corporations and communities together to save our shared swans. Add your support.

Lead poisoning: Many millions of tiny, poisonous lead pellets are shot each year by shotguns, and thousands of birds get sick or die through ingesting them. More than 17,000 of you signed a third party’s petition to ban lead, which shows the Government this issue matters to you. The Government is considering a stakeholder report on the risks and possible solutions.

25 year plan for nature: Many of you submitted your ideas for what you would like to see in the Government’s 25 year plan for nature. This began as a UK-wide plan, but the Government has narrowed it to covering just England, and put it on hold until after the EU referendum. We’ve put your ideas to them and we’re pushing for a public consultation later this year.

Thank you for helping us to help your wildlife.
