Raindrops are falling and WWT Slimbridge is calling
Don’t let rain stop play during the summer holidays.
Don’t let rain stop play during the summer holidays. Here at WWT Slimbridge we love all kinds of wet weather from downpours to drizzle because without it, where would wetlands be?
There are so many things to do on rainy days to keep the busiest of minds occupied, whatever your age. Just pull on your wellies, pop up an umbrella or even lift your eyes to the skies and embrace it because after all, it’s just a ‘bit’ of rain!
When it’s raining our feathered friends tend to get on with things, so birdwatching in the rain is no problem. But if you want a break from the weather you can retreat into one of our hides, which provide the perfect place to watch what’s going on outside while staying dry and still experiencing the wonder of wetlands.
Throughout the summer our Drawn to Water: Quentin Blake at WWT continues and you can pick up a guide that will take you around our nature trails through the eyes of the beloved UK illustrator.
And as well as following our beautiful trails, bursting with wildflowers and wildlife, we’re also inspired by the works of Quentin Blake and have plenty of art-themed indoor experiences. Try out wonderful water marbling, blow your own wetland or create chromatography butterflies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 25th July - 30th August, 2-4pm.
While you’re here you can also get some top tips from our experts on how to make a splash for nature and make a mini-wetland because this summer we’re encouraging everyone to make their own watery havens to help wildlife. Whatever space you have available, you can create a place for nature back home.
During the school holidays we have plenty of things for a fun day out and rainy days won’t stop that. Escape the everyday and immerse yourself in nature, from splodging through puddles in Welly Boot Land to exploring what’s on indoors, from meeting watery wonders in Toad Hall to playing in soft play. WWT Slimbridge is a great place for a day out in Gloucestershire - in fact it's 'Family Day Out Venue of the Year 2023'.
When you’re done with your adventures, our new Summer Menu is available at our Kingfisher Kitchen. Warm up with a hot chocolate or cool down with an ice cream because whatever the weather, there’s always time for seasonal treats!
