Our guide for rainy days this October half term
Don’t let the rain put you off a visit to Martin Mere! With the typical British weather constantly changing, we’ve got you covered for a fun day come rain or shine this October half-term (21-29 October).
Take a look at what activities we have as part of our eek! week event to keep you warm and dry, but still have a spooktacular time.
Pumpkin carving (£3.50)
Head down to our Education Centre from 12 - 3pm each day for some fun pumpkin carving! We've got everything you need to get creative with your designs. Pick your own pumpkin and get stuck in.
Quentin Blake exhibition & art hub (Free)
As part of our Drawn to Water partnership with Quentin Blake, enjoy a unique opportunity to explore some lesser-known works from Sir Quentin Blake’s personal archive, on display at our gallery. Then, take a seat at our art hub and learn how to draw wetland species using things like shapes and letters!
Easel art (Free)
Want to have a go at drawing still life in our Lecture Theatre? We've set up the room with easels, paper, pencils, and a range of wetland birds to use as reference. Or, come up with your own drawing! Perfect for the parents to have a go too.
Rita's art workshops (Free)
Join our volunteer Rita on 25 & 29 October for her free art workshops for children. In true Halloween style, we're creating some skeleton bookmarks with a sneaky surprise. Come along to find out what!
Take a seat in our hides (Free)
Experience our seasonal highlights this Autumn as we're joined by thousands of pink-footed geese and hundreds of whooper swans that have joined us from Iceland. We'll have daily wild bird feeds in our Discovery Hide at 3pm and Raines Observatory at 3.30pm so you can get an even closer look at these amazing migratory birds.
Relax in our Mere Side Cafe
Take a seat in our Mere Side Cafe and enjoy our delicious selection of hot food, hot drinks, and snacks to keep you nice and warm. We've recently updated our menu with some new items including our lasagne and vegan curry!
