Recent Sightings 6th - 10th November
Highlights: Spoonbill, Snipe, Ruff
Saline lagoon and Dafen scrapes:
This week saw a new site record for the number of Spoonbill present on the reserve at one time with 17 individuals being recorded on the saline lagoon (07/11). The saline lagoon has also had a small contingent of 17 Lapwing (10/11). 78 Wigeon were recorded on the Dafen scrapes this Friday (10/11), alongside 12 Tufted ducks and 2 Ruff.
Millennium Wetlands:
On the reserve elusive Snipe were seen amongst the reeds in front of the Sir Peter Scott Hide throughout the week, with Tufted, Shoveler, Gadwall, Teal and Mallard Ducks all being recorded throughout the week also. Around the wooded Northern loop of the site a Red kite appears to have made themselves at home and could regularly be seen gliding over the reserve.
Another big thank you goes out to our volunteers this week, who put in a lot of hard work to help clear one of our reed beds this Wednesday. This cutting and removal of material is integral to the management of reed beds and maintaining the vital water filtration and pollution defence they naturally provide wetlands with.
