Highlights - Great White Egret, Whimbrel, Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper and Wigeon
The black-headed gulls breeding on Deep water lake have now completed their breeding season and moved off the lake, leaving the area much quieter.
There is still plenty of wildlife on the lake however, including a variety of ducks such as teal, wigeon and shoveler. In the evenings, little egrets and cormorants have started to gather before roosting in the nearby trees.
Numbers of wading birds are increasing on site again, with whimbrel, curlew, dunlin, redshank and greenshank visible from the steel hide, and lapwing, black-tailed godwit, common sandpiper and green sandpiper often present on the lagoon.
A selection of birds of prey have been seen around the reserve recently, including peregrine, red kite, sparrowhawk and buzzard. The great white egret was also seen a couple of times this week on the reserve.
Butterflies have been abundant around the reserve of late with 12 species recorded this week, including large numbers of meadow brown, gatekeeper and speckled wood.
