Recent Sightings (11th- 13th Oct)

British Steel Hide

Waders from the British Steel Hide have included 325 Black-tailed Godwits, 25 Greenshank, 100 Knot, 5 Redshank and 29 Lapwing.

On the wildfowl front there has been 39 Wigeon, 15 Tufted Ducks, 8 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, a Pintail, 6 Teal, 200+ Greylag Geese and 30+ Canada Geese.

Other birds have included Kingfishers, Stonechats, Mistle and Song Thrushes, Buzzards and Skylarks.

 

Millennium Wetlands

Common Snipe are now fairly regular on the stony island in front of the Peter Scott hide, with counts of up to 11. However, they can be very tricky to spot. Up to 26 Lapwing have been seen on the island as well as 25 Gadwall, 9 Teal, 21 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 4 Little Grebes, 2 Shoveler, 18 Tufted Ducks and 9 Mute Swans.

Other birds seen around the reserve include a Barn Owl (12th), Skylarks, Grey Wagtails, Mistle and Song Thrushes, a Kestrel, Meadow Pipits and Kingfishers. Cetti's Warblers and Water Rails can be heard from the reedbeds around the reserve.

Other Wildlife

The star of the show from the last few days has to be the Otter caught on our trail camera in front of the Heron's Wing Hide in the early hours of Wednesday (11th) morning.
