Recent Sightings (11th-14th Nov)
British Steel Hide
Wader counts from the British Steel hide have included c.300 Black-tailed Godwits, c.300 Knot, 18 Dunlin, 19 Redshank, 9 Greenshank, 1 Spotted Redshank, 54 Lapwing and a Curlew. Counts of wildfowl included a Mute Swan, 11 Greylag Geese, 13 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 102 Shelduck, 45 Wigeon, 5 Gadwall, 27 Tufted Ducks, 11 Teal, 15 Mallard and 4 Shoveler. Other birds have included a Merlin, 2 Peregrines, a Kingfisher, a Grey Wagtail and a 2 Stonechats.
Millennium Wetlands
The Hawfinch extravaganza carried on into the weekend with 4 being seen on Saturday and 7 (including a flock of 6) seen on Sunday.
2 Brambling were seen near the Heron's Wing hide, as well as a Lesser Redpoll, a Siskin and 20+ Bullfinches. A Golden Plover was seen flying over the wetlands on the 12th and up to 12 Common Snipe have been seen roosting on the stony island on Deep Water Lake. Wildfowl on the wetlands have included 85 Gadwall, 10 Shoveler, 15 Tufted Ducks, 1 Pochard, 3 Wigeon, 3 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Pintail, 41 Teal, 9 Mute Swans, 2 Little Grebe and 7 Shelduck. Other birds have included 30+ Fieldfares, 20+ Song Thrushes, 15 Redwing, a Peregrine, a Sparrowhawk, Meadow Pipits, a Blackcap, Ravens, Cetti's Warblers and plenty more!
