Recent sightings 12th - 14th December

Avocet, Yellow-legged Gull, Spoonbill, Kestrel, and much more spotted

British Steel Hide

A wide variety of waders have been seen from the Steel hide including, 257 Black-tailed Godwit, 60 Lapwing, 20 Dunlin, 10 Redshank, Greenshank, Knot and Spotted Redshank. Large groups of Wigeon can be seen making use of the saline lagoons. There are still 3 Avocets seen from the Steel hide as well as a single Spoonbill. Amongst our usual gull species, a Yellow-legged Gull has been seen. Buzzards, a Kestrel and Red Kite has also been seen hunting over the salt marsh.

Millennium Wetlands

Good numbers of Gadwall, Teal and Tufted Duck have been seen on Deep Water Lake, as well as a few Shoveler, Wigeon and Shelduck. Waders are making use of the raised water level, including Black-tailed Godwit, Lapwing, Snipe and Redshank. Groups of Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Bullfinch and Long tailed Tit can be seen around the northern loop of the Millennium Wetlands. Red Kite has also been seen flying over the reserve. Several sightings of the Otter has been seen from the hides this week so keep an eye out.
