British Steel Hide
There have been Spotted Redshank amongst the other waders and there are now up to four Spoonbills on the saline lagoons. Two Wheatear have also been spotted so there is still time to see them before they leave for winter. At one time, there was over 40 Little Egrets seen flying above the lagoon. Finally, Shelducks have been showing a lot more from the British Steel Hide.
Wigeon numbers have really increased this week with over 100 on the Dafen Scrapes. There are also very high numbers of Teal and Shoveler. Two Ruff were spotted on the scrapes too. Look out for the tiny calf that arrived this week in the herd of grazing cattle.
Millennium Wetlands
Walking along the paths, Speckled Wood butterflies can be seen regularly along with a lovely flock of Long Tailed Tits gathering for winter. A Great White Egret has been seen flying overhead and fishing in Deep Water Lake. A kingfisher has regularly been seen using the post right outside the Sir Peter Scott Hide which offers brilliant photo opportunities. If you take a trip around the reserve, a Stone Chat was spotted on the scrapes near the estuary.
