Recent sightings 13th-16th April
Highlights include Avocet, Wheatear and Lesser Whitethroat
Spoonbill are still present on the saline lagoons with 4 being spotted recently, wader wise there have been both Redshank and Greenshank. Large numbers of Shelduck have been visible on the lagoons and out on the estuary, as well as Pintail, Shoveler, Wigeon, Gadwall and Tufted Duck. Also spotted include Lapwing, Little Egret, Greylag Goose, Dark-bellied Brent Goose, Black Headed Gull and Lesser Black-backed Gull.
On the Dafen Scrapes again have been big numbers of Shelduck, as well as Gadwall, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Black-tailed Godwit, and some displaying lapwing. An Avocet has seen feeding this morning on the freshwater lagoons visible from the boardwalk hide and the observatory.
Millennium Wetlands
Large numbers of Black-tailed Godwits continue to be seen on deep water lake from both the Peter Scott and Heron's Wing hides, up to 420 over the past few days. There are still good numbers of Lapwings sitting on nests, however no signs of any chicks just yet.. 14 Pochard were spotted over the weekend, as well as Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Gadwall and Little Egret. Other birds heard and seen across the reserve include Green Woodpecker, Swallow, Sand Martin, Mistle Thrush, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Wheatear and Lesser Whitethroat.
