Recent Sightings 14th-20th August
Highlights - Marsh Harrier, Yellow Wagtail, Grey Plover, Ruff and Cuckoo
High tides last weekend saw the lagoons on the marsh refill and an influx of wading birds get pushed in with the tides.
A total of 15 wader species were present on the marsh at high tide, comprising of Grey plover, Ruff, Knot, Wood Sandpiper, Spotted Redshank, Greenshank, Redshank, Dunlin, Bar-tailed Godwit, Black-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, Curlew, Lapwing, Common Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper. The Wood Sandpiper was spotted several times later on in the week as well.
Two Yellow Wagtail, one adult and one juvenile were identified on site, arriving on the high tides and staying mostly on the Dafen scrapes, often amongst the cows. Good numbers of Pied wagtail have also been present on Dafen scrapes with a few White wagtail among them.
A Marsh Harrier was spotted several times this week both on the marsh and over Deep water lake. Peregrine and Buzzard were also seen.
Two Cuckoo were found on the Millennium wetlands mid-week likely on migration, following on after the adult birds that have already left.
An Otter was also seen on Deep water lake during daylight hours this week.
