Recent Sightings 14th - 27th March
Highlights - Lapwings, Avocet, Jack Snipe, Sand Martin, Mediterranean Gull, and Bar-Tailed Godwit.

The dafen scrapes is a favourite with all our common species of gull but recently there have been sightings of mediterranean and common gulls too. We saw our first sand martin this week and a few days later there were five on the dafen scrapes. In amongst our growing numbers of black-tailed godwit there has been a bar-tailed godwit. Two avocets were seen out on the marsh flying from channel to channel, hopefully they might find their way up to the saline lagoon. Red kites have been seen gliding over head a lot recently and it's lovely to hear the greenfinches tinkling song in the grounds this time of year.
Millennium Wetlands
Its officially breeding season! We have at least two lapwing nests on the deep water lake islands, the kingfishers have been digging like crazy and the black-headed gulls are gathering in their hundreds (with a few med gulls amongst them) ready to breed. The spoonbills have moved over to the millennium wetlands and some other highlights have been jack snipe and woodcock sightings. Small tortoiseshell and brimstone butteries have been appearing this week too.
