Recent sightings 15th - 18th June

Highlights include Mediterranean Gull, Sparrowhawk and Scarlet Tiger Moth

British Steel Hide

It has been quiet over the saline lagoons recently, however the 4 Spoonbill are still present as are the small flock of recently fledged Lapwing. Over on the Dafen scrapes there have been sightings of to 3 Little Ringed Plover seen feeding along the banks of the scrapes, also seen include Pied Wagtail, Linnet, Lapwing, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, and a pair of Shoveler.

On the Freshwater lagoon there have been around 50 Black-headed Gull chicks beginning to fledge, they have been seen practising their flying with the assistance of their parents around the lagoon.


Millennium Wetlands

Seen on deep water lake have been Pochard, Shoveler, Little Grebe, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Black-tailed Godwit, Grey Heron and Little Egret. Also seen in with the Black-Headed Gulls has been up to 11 Mediterranean Gulls on the Stone islands. Sedge Warblers and Whitethroat can still be heard and seen in the vegetation along centre path, visible also from the Heron's Wing Hide. On Saturday a female Sparrowhawk was seen hunting throughout the day over the wetlands.

A Scarlet Tiger moth has been spotted along side the path by the Peter Scott Hide, and an Oak Eggar moth caterpillar has been seen in the vegetation on the path to the canoe safari.
