Recent sightings 16th-19th February

A nice variety of birds seen recently, including Spoonbill, Avocet and Green Sandpiper.

British Steel Hide

Work is continuing on the sea wall, however there has been a nice variety of birds seen on the lagoons and estuary. Over the lagoons recently have been 65 Redshank, Spotted Redshank, 58 Dunlin, Knot, Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Spoonbill, Avocet and Yellow-legged Gull. There has also been around 280 Lapwing and 93 Wigeon. On the estuary there have been large numbers of Dark-bellied Brent Goose, Shelduck, Pintail, Curlew and Oystercatcher.

Millennium Wetlands

Spotted on deep water lake recently include Shoveler, Pochard, Gadwall and Tufted Duck. On the stone island visible from the Peter Scott and Heron's wing hides have been Snipe, and today Green Sandpiper. The otter continues to be regularly seen from both hides and from the screens on the northern loop, the last it was seen was at 9.30am this morning. Raptors across the reserve include Kestrel, Red Kite and Buzzard, and other birds spotted have been Green Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Coal Tit and Long-tailed Tit.
