Recent sightings 17th-19th October
British Steel Hide
Good numbers of waders have been seen from the Steel Hide, with 534 Black-tailed Godwit, 313 Knot, as well as Redshank, Curlew, Greenshank and Spotted redshank. Grey wagtail are making good use of our new Dafen scrapes. 3 Swallows have also been seen. The Hobby continues to make an appearance from both the Steel hide and the Millennium Wetlands, as well as Sparrowhawk and Buzzards being seen.
Millennium Wetlands
A wide variety of waterfowl have been seen around the wetlands, with 70 Gadwal and a number of Teal, Tufted Duck. Shoveler, Wigeon and Pochard have also made an appearance. Water rail have become a common sound in the wetlands with 6 being heard. Great spotted and Green Woodpecker have been seen regularly around the reserve, often seen at the tops of trees. Brambling, Chiffchaff and Yellow browed warbler have been seen by the Peter Scott hide so keep an eye out. The Otter was seen on Wednesday by the new screens.
Our butterflies are still around, with Red admirals, Peacock and Speckled wood being seen around the reserve.
